Haywire
- By day: OIC pensions manager Brian Hay, 38.
- Style of Music: Rock and metal
- Why Haywire?: Ellen Baikie suggested I use Haywire and it stuck. High Voltage came from me surfing the net looking for suitable names for our night. It was basically nicked from another rock night down south.
- Refuelling: Proper Indian or Thai curry. Ernest & Julio Gallo white grenache/zinfandel.
- On the box: At the moment it would be My Name Is Earl, just because it’s a bit stupid really. It is pretty funny though, especially the bee sting episode where he tries to return the college professor’s laptop.
- On the web: At the moment it’s probably www.swedenrock.com as me, Krome and the Shearer boys have been over to the Sweden Rock Festival. It’s got a pretty good line-up of old school rock bands. The Europeans love their metal.
- Getting into the groove: Take the CDs over to Krome’s, drink a couple of beers and listen to the music that we know we’ll never get off with playing in Fusion.
- First record bought: Ozzy Osbourne’s Diary of a Madman and yes we’ve probably played one or two tracks from this album. I bought it with a £5 Christmas voucher from Occidental (the oil company) because I liked the cover. I now realise the cover is horrible but the album totally rocks (RIP Randy Rhodes). In my defence, I was only about 13 at the time and who knows anything at that age?
- Best and worst: Guaranteed Lynryd Skynrd’s Sweet Home Alabama (everyone loves it). Never Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5. We keep getting asked for this! I do, however have a punk rock version by Millencolin that I’ve not played yet. Please stop asking for Dolly, it’s a rock night and we’ll never play it!!
- Heroes? I kinda like Ace Frehley (Kiss’ guitarist), just because of the fact that he has actually managed to stay alive which is quite a feat considering the amount of abuse his body has taken over the years.
- And another thing: A larger lady once threatened to do something rather unpleasant to me if I didn’t play the song she wanted. I played it although I can’t quite remember what it was. It might have been The Killers’ Mr Brightside. Not a bad song I suppose.
